BRISTOL CHINESE NEW YEAR 2013 WITH MAKALA CHEUNG

Saturday 9th February 2013 will see the start to Bristol's Chinese New Year 2013 - year of the snake - celebrations! The magnificent Makala Cheung will be showcasing her very special Butterfly performances alongside Jon Drummer BrownJay Unearthed and Paul Wolfy, to give you another fine installment of oriental urban pop. Their first show can be caught at the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery on Queens Road (BS8 1RL) at 3.30pm and at the M-Shed on the sunday, also at 3.30pm. Last years celebrations were a super success so come on down, get a feel for Chinese culture with fun activities, performances, kung fu and tai chi workshops as well as other family activities.

Chinese New Year of the Dragon started off and proceeded with a sucession of splendid displays of appreciation and representation of Bristol's Chinese cultural diversity from all areas of it's community. Celebrating the colourful and traditional, as well as blending in an eclectic mix of modern tastes and interpritations for this very special weekend event.

LadyK was representing the singer, songwriter, live music element of the performances, with fellow Bristol artists @deepbristol@fullmoonpooch and @unearthedpromos.

Performing morning and afternoon shows over the entire weekend, dubbed 'Lady K and her band' they laid down a triage of freshly scripted tracks specially remixed and incorporating elements of the new year culture. We caught up with Lady K to get her thoughts her weekend performances:

"I really enjoyed working with new musicians and mixing styles and instruments we wouldn't normally use and hearing the sound. We got a really good response from the crowds every time and I really loved being part of a group performance."

With record numbers of crowds for this new setting it was great to be part of a new era of celebration for Bristol, and seeing so many communities celebrating together was a real positive achievement for Bristol. Unearthed will of course be publishing a gallery link for this article very shortly. Lady K has lots of current projects before her next shows including videos, studio work and community projects where she donates her time to volunteers.
